In particular they will enable the forecasted growth in the carriage of goods by road to be shifted towards other modes of transport. The coordinators of the 6 projects have handed their annual progress reports of their projects to Jacques Barrot and given him their recommendations. If the Berlin – Palermo and Paris – Bratislava trunk routes are progressing rapidly, the same cannot be said for the other four networks. Beyond the technical difficulties, they are also missing true and financial support from the countries concerned and sometimes also are meeting with opposition from local populations.
